My Vodafone mobile / One design, multiple platforms

The challenge

My Vodafone is the dashboard that shows customers information about their Vodafone account. We needed to design a mobile version that would work on all devices, with simple and centralised code.

What we did

Mobile strategy: We worked closely with Vodafone to come up with an app that would provide total transparency around their customers' phone bills, and at the same time reduce their need to ring the call centre. With the Vodafone teams - online, customer care and product owners - we developed a mobile solution that would work for both the customer and the business.

Development: We built one app using HTML5, which allowed us to give it some nice features like scrolling and tapping, as well as data retrieval, which was essential for the application.  Most importantly, with HTML5, we could deploy it to any device with minimal work. We also delivered without any integration with Vodafone's internal IT team, saving both time and money.

Interaction design: Because we knew the Vodafone customer so well, we could design exactly what they needed. The most crucial information that the app gave them was data usage: how much data they've used and how much they have left at any given time. We designed the app not just to replicate their bill, but to provide them information about their account as the month went by.

Analytics: We installed in-app analytics, that showed us which devices people were using as well as what they were doing with the app itself. This information allows us to continually evolve the application and develop features that are truly useful.

Results

The day it was released, there were 7,000 downloads of the app. Within a month, the downloads went up to 20,000.
