John Wood / Senior UX Designer
John is a senior analyst with many areas of expertise, namely interaction design and information architecture.
For one of his recent projects with Brian and Lar, he designed an eLearning application entirely from scratch for Houghton Mifflin Harcourt. He also acted as design lead for the NUI Galway site redesign is UX lead in our work for Citigroup.
In addition to information design, he is a leader in user research and especially document design. For the NUI Galway project, he applied new agile development methods for UX design and content production. He also redesigned our own internal documentation: something he believes is really important and necessary to deliver a design that you know will get built.
John is also in charge of our HR department with Liz; he mentors junior analysts in their job skills through 'teachable moments' on projects, or formal mentoring.
John is always learning, but says his main problem is not what he’s excited about at any one time, but having the discipline to pursue it – “I attack on a broad front,” as he puts it.
Before joining iQ, John was a researcher at National Council of the Blind of Ireland, a senior business analyst at SmartForce and a Technical Publications Manager at CBT Systems.
John’s a historian by training and is still interested in military history – whether it’s building scale models, reading or gaming or lecturing us on the principles of Auftragstaktik (the application of the German 'mission command' method of managing large chaotic undertakings, be it warfare or websites).
He also plays guitar, "badly and occasionally."
