Brian Donohue / UX Practice Lead

Brian heads up our user experience design practice, setting standards, leading teams and constantly fine-tuning our work and methods. He's an expert in e-commerce, self-service usability and strategy.

Recently, he's brought this expertise to Airtricity, where he developed a self-service strategy and design; and to Houghton Mifflin Harcourt (HMH), where through intensive workshopping, interface designing, and extensive rounds of user-testing with kids and teachers in the U.S., he helped HMH transform a vision of a brand new e-learning application into a living and breathing design.

Brian was also the design lead for the nifty budgeting application for Permanent TSB called Spendometer (it's actually fun – check it out!).

He participates in the full spectrum of the client relationship, from strategy to design, to testing and rollout.

Originally a content specialist, Brian’s enthusiasm for interaction design has led iQ in all kinds of interesting directions. He kick-started our Analytics offering back in 2005, and is now one of 3 on the team with the Google Analytics certification. In 2008, he was invited to speak at Google’s Analytics Consultants Summit in California.

He's committed to helping our clients optimise conversions.

“Conversion optimisation hits the sweet spot because it combines analytics, usability and design,” he says. “That makes it hyper-practical, because it's all about what actually works in getting people to complete the key tasks on your site.”

You’ll often find Brian speaking at events across Europe and as guest podcasts including the influential UXPod with Gerry Gaffney.

Before iQ, Brian was an instructional designer at Smartforce, an e-learning company, and as a researcher at the National Institute of Mental Health. He’s one of our expats, originally from Maryland, he and Randall argue over whether this makes him a Southerner or not.

When he’s not working, Brian spends time with his family, and dreams up excuses to visit his brother in Paris.
