The iTunes AppStore has been up and running for the last couple of weeks giving iPod Touch and iPhone owners access to a myriad of third party apps.
If you’re a twitter user ‘a twit’ or member of the ‘twitterati’ there’s the excellent Twitterific app and now, the WordPress app – the blog editor for the small screen – I’m using it to write this.
My views? Not sure it’s all that suited to mobility – it’s a little bit unwieldy to type anything significant on a mobile device, including the iPhone.
Another issue is that you need to know your (X)HTML to format your content.
I’ve plenty more to say but “hen-peck typing” is becoming tiresome, so that’s where I’ll leave it.

People are really struggling to find decent iPhone apps it seems.
The games are pointless accelerometer based boredom and the rest of the apps seem to be offline versions of their web counterparts.
I struggle to see the point in that, given that the phone is by definition, online.
Nice work on the wordpress move!

Hi Des,
Agreed. I’m quite underwhelmed. I’d like to see something genuinely useful, say a train times app.

Absolutely, but then you’d have to wonder, does such an application really need to be native to the iPhone, surely a web equivalent would do the job?

I agree with Des. The iPhone is “an internet device” and surely doesn’t need seperate applications for web-based services. Unless of course there are usability issues with the iPhone browser during content creation (inputting text etc.,). I’d love to see a comparison of the two methods.

Fecking WordPress App borked my blog
Maybe I’m just hexxed, but I ended up with all sorts a weird crap being posted, all before the App even managed to start up – just kept giving me an error message

Hi Richard,
I noticed some crazy stuff happening on your blog via my feedreader.
