Most users ignore Google’s Sponsored Links

While usability testing over the last year with a number of different clients and over 50 user test participants, I’ve observed that most users don’t click on Google Ads on the right-hand side of the Google search results page.

Why do users ignore sponsored links?

I think increasing screen resolutions are the reason. Increased screen resolutions produce more white space between organic search results and sponsored links on the right hand side of the screen making the sponsored links more like “banner/skyscraper” ads which many studies show to be ignored by users.
