The team, lead by Justin Knecht from the Centre for Design Innovation, created a social network application which allows users to find accessible routes throughout the city, rate transporation options, and report obstacles for other users with similar disabilities.
The 24 Hour Universal Design Challenge was run by TrinityHaus and the Centre for Excellence in Universal Design, and involved five teams with a variety of design disciplines. Each team was assigned a different route through the city as well as a design sponsor - a member of the public with a disability, who took them through the route to identify obstacles and problems. The teams then worked throughout the night to come up with a solution based on the experiences of their design sponsor that would also fulfil the principles of universal design.
